Why OHOME

Australia's housing crisis is systemic. Land, regulation, capital and construction are all constrained at once, and every conventional housing fix asks Australians to pay more, wait longer, or both. OHOME was designed to reduce the housing stress of Australians now, by using what the country already has, and to put homes where they are needed most: infill sites in established communities, close to jobs, schools, transport and family.

An OHOME is a factory-built, fully furnished home delivered onto land you already own. It arrives ready to live in: around 150 days from order, two weeks on site, 7-star energy rated, with a 10-year structural warranty and 237 quality checks before it leaves the production line. The range runs from a 20 m² living studio to an 80 m² three-bedroom home.

For homeowners, OHOME turns an underused backyard into a second home: a place for a parent, an adult child, an essential worker or a tenant. For investors, it is a second income on land you already own, with no land to buy. Around one million Australian properties already have the space. Planning pathways for secondary dwellings are already open. Three financing pathways have been established to ensure more homes are supplied: a construction loan, an equity release loan, or deferred ownership with no loan at all.

The same model scales with high-density living on institutional land. Governments, universities, health and aged-care providers, faith-based and First Nations organisations and REITs hold land where housing pressure is highest, and OHOME partners with them to build on it.

A century of
nation building.

OHOME was founded by L. Janusz Hooker, Chair of LJ Hooker, the company his grandfather Sir Les Hooker started from a single office in Maroubra in 1928. Sir Les built his reputation by travelling the world for the most successful housing solutions of his day and bringing them back to help solve Australia's post-war housing crisis, delivering one in five homes built in that era. The Hooker group has been building the nation ever since, introducing REITs, franchising, large-format retail and Gyprock to Australia. Today, LJ Hooker manages more than 100,000 homes and sells 25,000 a year across 350 offices nationwide.

A century on, Australia is in a housing crisis again, and the instinct is the same. Over five years of R&D, Janusz sought out the world's leading innovators across the property ecosystem to formulate the OHOME solution: build on what is already here, and bring the world's best home.

LJ Hooker's centenary marks a hundred years of helping Australians build their lives. That heritage is a responsibility, and OHOME is its next chapter.

If you have land, you can help solve the housing crisis now.
